The Challenge

State Farm is the nation’s leading auto, home and life insurer, helping their customers and their families prepare for the unexpected. State Farm agents like Jim Rollo offer products to help customers meet their insurance and financial services needs.

Jim Rollo approached Amy J. Stoddard Marketing with a plan to drive up leads, but the visual assets needed to be compliant with State Farm's brand guidelines. Amy Stoddard contracted me to complete this project.

The Solution

I used State Farm's brand guidelines, and applied their text, color, and image treatments to Jim Rollo's banners and bus stop signs. Jim Rollo is known for wearing a bow tie, so that was included, very subtly, in the printed assets.

The items were then submitted to State Farm's compliance team for review. The assets were approved with no changes.

The Process

Jim provided an excellent portrait that I was able to extract his image from, and place it over State Farm's red background.

I then created a vector image of his iconic tie.

Once I started making the print assets, I made sure to bleed some of the red color into Jim's portrait to imitate the way that light works on a subject, and soften the harsh edge from the selection. I also desaturated Jim's overall portrait to make him appear less red.
